A New Way to Learn, Collaboratively

  • Get high quality responses, while it still matters.

By using a wiki format for responses to questions, the entire class - students, TAs, and profs - can edit a response, resulting in the most accurate and concise information. Since students can participate from anywhere, they're able to get help 24/7.

  • Encourage class participation.

Many students are embarrassed or shy to participate in class or admit they need help. We understand that, and that's why we let them ask and respond to questions anonymously. Our goal is to break down the barriers of the traditional classroom. Students can now participate freely.

  • Eliminate the noise.

Noise interferes with learning and increases frustration. With Piazzza, we eliminate those redundant emails, and information you don't want to see. Features allow you to optimize your class experience the way you want it and the way learning was meant to be.

  • Understand the pulse of the class.

Frequent class reports condense all the activity going on outside the classroom. Professors can analyze and incorporate this information how they think best, and students can get in on the action they were missing out on.

Built By Students, For Students

It started with one student getting fed-up with search engines. Stuck on the mechanics of a computer science problem, Piazzza founder Pooja Nath quickly realized Google wasn't going to be much help - the search results were much too general. And she needed an answer fast. What she needed was help from people that understood her particular scenario, and who might be facing the same kind of problem. People like her own classmates.

She realized she wasn't the only one in this situation, and not just in her computer science class. Her fellow students all seemed to have questions from logistical questions, concepts, or something else - for which search engines just didn't seem useful. And yet they didn't always have a fellow classmate around to help out, let alone an expert source like a TA or a professor.

What Instructors Think

  • Dave Mount, University of Maryland

"Piazzza is in beta and it's already miles ahead of any other tools the university provides us. And the university pays a load for those."

    Dave Mount
    University of Maryland

  • Terri Griffith, Santa Clara University

"I've been using on-line discussion forums for ten years. Until Piazzza, these systems created obstacles for communication [...] they almost weren't worth the trouble. Piazzza has found a way to provide a clean, direct interface with enough control that communication doesn't become a burden."

    Terri L. Griffith, PhD
    Santa Clara University

  • Paul Mitiguy, Stanford University

"Lets you get work done. Period."

  • Dave Mount, University of Maryland

"Piazzza is a brilliant idea, beautifully executed. After only a few months using the service, I cannot imagine going back to the old way of answering student questions by email."
